Scanning

How a scan runs, what counts as a new term on each platform, and how to cancel.

A scan collects posts, repos and models from the platforms you ticked, pulls candidate names out of them, drops the ones Radar has seen before, and asks your AI provider to score the rest.

Starting and cancelling

Click Scan now in the popup. All platforms are ticked by default; untick any you want to skip this time. While it runs, the popup shows the current platform and how many tasks are done. Click Cancel in the popup, or Cancel on Chrome's debugging bar, to stop.

Only one run happens at a time. Manual scans and searches go first; an automatic scan that comes due during a manual one waits its turn.

The Radar tab

Hugging Face, GitHub and Google Trends are read with plain requests. X, Reddit and Product Hunt need a real page, so a run opens one background tab inside a collapsed tab group named Radar and loads each page there in turn.

While that tab is open Chrome shows a “started debugging this browser” bar: the extension uses the debugger permission only to read that tab's network responses. The tab, the group and the bar disappear when the run ends.

What counts as new

PlatformRule
XThe earliest post carrying the name is under 30 hours old, and the name is not in the 60-day vocabulary. It must come from 2+ accounts, or be a strong name with 100+ likes. At most 3 names per post.
RedditSame 30-hour first-seen rule as X. The first scan also reads the month's top posts to learn older names.
Hugging FaceThe model or Space entered the trending top 50 for the first time in the last 30 hours. GGUF, AWQ and fine-tune suffixes are folded into the base name.
GitHubCreated within 14 days and averaging 200+ stars a day, or 400+ since the last scan.
Product HuntOn today's list.
Google TrendsIn the trending searches feed for your region.

Because the X and Reddit rule is based on when a name first appeared, scanning twice on the same day still reports the same new names.

When a platform fails

A platform failing never stops the others. Each X account or subreddit is retried once; after three consecutive failures (configurable) the rest of that platform is skipped and the report marks it.
